Monroe Plateau with Glass Bon Bon Dishes Added

This color photograph by Erik Kvalsvik shows the cut glass bonbon dishes that President Franklin Pierce added to a gilded bronze plateau purchased for the White House during the Monroe administration. Added in 1854, the glass dishes replaced the candlesticks the figurines originally held. The photograph shows the plateau as it appeared in the State Dining Room circa 1988.
